Weighty Issue on the Brain

from Queensland Times

Dr. George Blair-West

It's often hard to obey the rules of a weight loss diet when you genuinely love food, but one Brisbane author could hold the key to success. Jindalee psychiatrist Dr George Blair-West will this month launch his new book Weight Loss for Food Lovers - Understanding the Psycholgy & Sabotage of Weight Loss.

Dr Blair-West said when it came to weight loss, most thinking people knew what to eat, but it was the "whys" that were the real challenge. "Why we eat what we shouldn't; why we don't eat what we should; why we don't exercise to the level we should: and the biggest one - why we sabotage our weight loss plans," Dr Blair-West explained. Sacrifices and self-discipline are not the way to long-term weight according to Dr Blair-West, but savouring your food is intrinsic in his healthy obesity-proof eating habits.

When Dr Blair-West developed a cholesterol problem in his late 30s, he took up a rigorous exercise program, a strict diet and achieved his target weight over a year. But he put all the weight back on the following January when he took a month-Iong holiday with his children. The long-term weight loss secrets he developed after this is the basis ofhis new book. The book's launch includes a four-course lunch menu where Dr Blair-West will share his secrets to enjoying food healthily.
